How to find out how much a Home Depot gift card is worth? ›

Visit any The Home Depot® store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you. Check your balance online at homedepot.com/gift-cards/balance.

Start by looking at the back of your gift card. Typically, you'll find a toll-free number you can call to discover your balance. Or you can check your balance by visiting the card issuer's site and entering your card's 16-digit number and security code.

The Stipulated Judgment entered on July 2, 2024, by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David S. Cunningham III, provides that the company will pay $750,000 in civil penalties, fees, and restitution.

The gift card may have been declined for another reason such as the cashier ran the card incorrectly (see above), the gift card never got activated (see below) or the dollar value being charged against the card is greater than the card's load value.

You can check your card balance by visiting the website of your card issuer or calling their toll-free customer service number. However, most gift cards allow you to check the balance without redeeming them whether directly or indirectly.

Flip the card over to the side with the black strip and read the fine print on the back of the card. It will usually have directions to find your balance and will sometimes list a website that you can visit to determine your balance. Beware of scam sites that aren't affiliated with the gift card company.

Q: Can Home Depot gift cards be redeemed for cash? Gift card is valid for the purchase of merchandise/services at any The Home Depot® store in the USA, Canada and online (at homedepot.com and homedepot.ca). This Gift Card is not a credit/debit card and is not redeemable for cash or credit unless required by law.

At the one year mark, just under 80% of cards are redeemed — and as time passes, they are less and less likely to see the light of day. At any given time, 10% to 19% of gift card balances remain unredeemed — and around 6% of gift cards are never even used.

If the balance falls below the cut-off line, ask the cashier to pay you the balance of the gift card in cash. Some will do it automatically and others will have to call the store manager to find out how to do it.

The most common reasons are that the card hasn't been activated, the cashier is running the wrong type of transaction, the dollar amount being charged is greater than the card's balance or the credit card processing machine is bumping up the charge amount to either place a hold on the card or to allow for a gratuity.

Your physical card has not been activated. (Note: Virtual cards do not require activation.) The card has expired. Insufficient funds are available on your card to cover the purchase, which may be influenced by a pre-authorization charge.

Visit the Homedepot.com website. Log in into your account. Select Redeem prepaid card.

You can call 1-800-544-2943 to check your Target GiftCard balance and hear your last five transactions. If you don't already have a Target account, you will need to create one to check the balance of your Target GiftCard.
